What is it?
Falling Star, is a mixed medium project that challenged me to create 14 small compositions to make a one whole composition. Each tile required at least one unique material from the rest. This ranged from encaustic wax paint to ceramic wrap.
Meaning:
The piece tells the story of a girl falling through space, or the void of her pain. As in most of my projects I do not simply tell a story of despair but seek to tell a story of hope. In this one, hope is found in the dove constellation of grace and the messenger of peace. While the sun is another sign of hope one of warmth and one that gives life. But hope, can be interpreted differently among all peoples.

Completed on October 13, 2017. Had to be modified in November because viewer broke head off.
"The summary of the story. A star, a girl, falling, falling, falling."
"The mouth that once tried to speak words of truth became so cold from the deaf ears it feel upon. That it froze, broke, and shattered."
"Pain is sometimes gray. Because we don't know who to blame because we think it's us, you, or them. But something clear is that pain is starring at our face as the eminent fear of being hit to oblivion."
"The ones that seem so pure, innocent, or calm are sometimes the one suffering the most to help others ignoring the problems they hold. But sometimes, they are their own hope."
"Sometimes pain is visible. But the goal a mystery. It's not for attention but to grasp onto what reminds them of light. Please don't hurt yourself. Because though you reach for the light it can still blind you from the present."
"The moon, a mirror. A reflection of a light that may or may not be true."
"Falling, falling, falling. Yet, these tears keep going up, up, up."
"Yet, when we step back and take a moment to look into the void of our loneliness. We come to realize that in the grand scheme of the universe we are not the only ones suffering."
"There is often regret in our pain because we miss those moments..."
"But suddenly, there's a warmth. Calming almost. It shines. It gives life. It can destroy. What is it? Love?"
"There is beauty."
"There is a star."
"That is falling. In a tainted world. That let it down. That hurt it. That denied it."
"Though tainted. There is hope."
For me, my hope is found in God. As the son (sun) of God, Jesus came as a human identified by a dove.
Matthew 3:16-17
"And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

He came to die a death he did not deserve. Overcoming death to show that sin had no hold on Him or our future if we choose to accept Him. That is my hope.
